The short answer
A view is counted when your video plays. That is all TikTok says. It does not publish how long a play must last. It does not say whether replays or your own plays count. The number on the video is close to live. Analytics can run 1 to 2 days behind it.
What TikTok does document
We checked TikTok’s help center. These are the facts it does publish.

The first article is short. You can read it at My posts aren’t getting views. It tells you to use Analytics to understand your total views. It does not define a view.
What TikTok does not document
TikTok’s help pages have no answer for these questions:
- How many seconds a play must last to count.
- Whether a replay counts as a new view.
- Whether your own plays count.
- Whether a video that autoplays in a feed counts.
If a blog gives you an exact number of seconds, it is guessing. TikTok has not published one. Any rule could also change without notice.
What creators notice
These are patterns creators report. They are not rules. TikTok can change how it counts at any time.
- Own views. Some creators say opening their own video adds one view. Others say the count does not move. Results differ by account and app version.
- Replays. Looping a video on one phone often adds a few views, then stops. Nobody outside TikTok knows the cutoff.
- Bursts. Views often arrive in waves. A video can sit still for hours, then jump.
- Rounding. Once a number gets big, the app shows “12.4K” instead of the exact count. The full number is in Analytics.
The safe reading: your own replays will not move a video. Real people do.
Why the video number and Analytics differ
This is the most common mix-up. The two numbers come from different places.
- Timing. The count on the video updates fast. Analytics can take 1 to 2 days to catch up.
- Time zone. Analytics uses UTC. Your day in the app may end at a different hour than your day in Analytics.
- Start date. Analytics only tracks posts made after you switched it on. Older posts show no data.
- Rounding. The video shows a rounded number. Analytics shows the full one.
To open Analytics: tap Profile, tap the Menu button at the top, then TikTok Studio. Analytics is inside the Posts tab. TikTok says the feature is not available to everyone yet.
If the data looks wrong, TikTok says to wait a few days. If it is still wrong, send screenshots to TikTok support from the app.
Post view history is not a view count
TikTok has a setting called post view history. It shows some of the people who viewed your posts. It is not a total.
TikTok says it lists:
- Followers who also have the setting on.
- People who liked or commented, even if they do not follow you.
- Only views from the last 7 days.
You must be 16 or older and have fewer than 5,000 followers. Turn it on under Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Post views. Full details are in TikTok’s post view history article. Profile views work in a similar way. See how to see who viewed your TikTok profile.
Why a video shows 0 views
A flat 0 usually means one of these.
- Under review. TikTok checks posts when you upload them, when they gain popularity, or when someone reports them. Views can pause during the check.
- Not eligible for the For You feed. TikTok may decide a post cannot be recommended. It will not appear in the For You feed. TikTok says it will tell you the reason.
- Privacy set to Only you. Only you can see it, so only you can view it.
- Analytics is off. Without Analytics, you cannot see the notices above.
To check a post: open it, tap More insights, then Analytics. Tap the notification if there is one. You can send feedback and appeal from the same screen. TikTok explains the process in its content violations and bans article.

What to do when views look stuck
- Wait 1 to 2 days before you trust Analytics.
- Check the post for a For You feed notice.
- Check the privacy setting on the post.
- Compare the full count in Analytics with the rounded count on the video.
- Watch your follower number with our free TikTok counter. If followers grow while views sit still, the views are lagging, not lost.
