The short answer
Instagram does not have a “hide followers” button. The follower number always shows on your profile. The follower list can be hidden from strangers by going private. That is the only real way.
Below are all the things you can do, from biggest to smallest. TikTok works differently. It has a real switch for this. See how to hide followers on TikTok.
1. Switch to a private account
This is the one setting that hides your follower list from people who do not follow you.
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Tap the menu (three lines) in the top right.
- Tap Settings and activity.
- Tap Account privacy.
- Turn on Private account.
What changes:
- Strangers see your follower count, but they cannot open the list.
- Strangers cannot see your posts, Reels or Stories.
- New followers must send a request. You approve or ignore it.
What does not change:
- People who already follow you still see everything.
- Your follower count stays visible to everyone.
2. Remove followers you do not want
You can remove any follower. They are not told.
- Go to your profile and tap Followers.
- Find the person. Use the search bar if the list is long.
- Tap Remove next to their name.
Do this on a private account and they lose access to your posts right away. On a public account they can still see your posts, but they stop seeing them in their feed.
3. Block one person
Blocking hides your whole profile from that one person. They cannot see your followers, your following list or your posts. They are not notified.
- Open their profile.
- Tap the three dots in the top right.
- Tap Block.
Instagram also offers to block any new accounts that person makes. Turn that on. If you think someone did this to you, see how to know if someone blocked you on Instagram.
4. Hide like and view counts on posts
This does not hide followers, but people often mix the two up. You can hide how many likes a post gets.
- For one post: open the post, tap the three dots, then Hide like count.
- For all posts: Settings and activity → Like and share counts → turn on Hide like and share counts.
Full steps are in our guide to hiding likes on Instagram.
5. Use Close Friends for Stories
You cannot hide your follower list with this. But you can share Stories with a small group only. Go to Settings and activity → Close Friends and pick people. Then post a Story to Close Friends.
What you cannot do
- Hide the follower number on your profile.
- Hide the follower list on a public account.
- Hide your following list on a public account.
- Hide followers from one person without blocking them.
Apps that promise to “hide your followers” cannot do it either. Instagram does not give them that power. Every real privacy setting is listed in Instagram’s help center. If it is not there, it does not exist. Many of those apps ask for your password. Never give it.
Why people want to hide followers
- A small count on a new account feels embarrassing.
- They do not want family or coworkers to see who follows them.
- They are dealing with someone who watches their profile.
For the last two, a private account or a block solves it. For the first, the count cannot be hidden. It can only grow. Posting steady, good content is the long way. A small, paced push is the short way. Famoid sells Instagram followers that arrive over time, never in one fake jump, and we never ask for your password.
