How many people use Instagram?

Instagram has about 2 billion monthly active users. Meta confirmed that number in late 2022. It has not given a newer Instagram-only count since. So 2 billion is still the figure to quote. The Meta investor site now reports one number for all its apps. That “family daily active people” figure passed 3.4 billion in 2025.

In 2019, Instagram said 500 million people used Stories each day. Third-party estimates now put daily users well above 1 billion.

Instagram users by country

India has the largest audience, at around 360 to 400 million users. The United States is second, at around 170 million. Brazil and Indonesia come next. Each has well over 100 million. These numbers come from DataReportal, which uses Meta’s own ad reach data.

Growth is fastest in India, Indonesia and parts of Africa. In the US and Europe, the user count is mostly flat.

Instagram age and gender

Around 60 percent of users are aged 18 to 34. The 25 to 34 group is the largest slice, at roughly 30 percent. People over 45 make up under 20 percent. These splits come from Statista and DataReportal. Gender is close to even. Worldwide there are slightly more men. In the US there are slightly more women.

Instagram Reels statistics

Reels launched in August 2020. By 2024, Meta said Reels made up about half of all time spent on Instagram. Meta also reported over 200 billion Reels plays a day. That count covers Facebook and Instagram together. Reels is the main reason time in the app keeps growing.

We track a lot of accounts at Famoid. The ones that post Reels three times a week grow far faster than the ones that post photos only.

Instagram ad revenue

Meta does not break out Instagram revenue. Analyst estimates put it at roughly 50 to 70 billion dollars a year. That is around half of Meta’s total. Meta’s own reports show total ad revenue above 160 billion dollars in 2024. Instagram’s share rises each year because Reels ads keep growing.

Instagram has also said about 90 percent of users follow at least one business.

Time spent on Instagram

Third-party app data puts average use at around 30 minutes a day. Teens spend more, often over an hour. That is behind TikTok but ahead of Facebook.

Posts per day

Instagram stopped sharing this number years ago. Its last public figures pointed to about 100 million photos and videos a day. Treat any exact daily count you read as an estimate.

Most-followed Instagram accounts

Figures are approximate, 2025.

Account Followers (approx.)

Cristiano Ronaldo around 660 million
Lionel Messi around 500 million
Selena Gomez around 420 million
Kylie Jenner around 390 million
