But what happens when someone you don’t know starts making offensive remarks, or worse? 

You may want to keep things simple and use Facebook strictly as a place to share content without worrying about monitoring conversations. Or, perhaps, You want to avoid any negative comments from being posted publicly on your page.

This is where disabling comments on the Facebook page comes into the picture. Disabling comments can protect your content from spam or any negative comments.  

But is it possible to disable comments on Facebook pages? Does Facebook have an in-built feature to turn off the comments?

Is it Possible to Completely Disable Comments on The Facebook Page?

There are no settings that allow you to disable comments entirely on your Facebook page. However, you can always delete comments that you do not like. 

To delete a comment on a post on your Facebook page, simply tap and press the comment to open a menu on your screen. From the menu, tap on Delete Comment. And this will delete that certain comment from your page.

Keep in mind: You can delete comments on your Facebook page from the mobile app only. The delete feature isn’t available on browsers. From the browser, you can only hide or report the comment. 

How to Disable Comments on a Facebook Page

As we mentioned earlier, you can’t disable comments directly on a Facebook page. However, you can take some alternative actions to disable specific comments from your page’s posts. 

For instance, Facebook allows you to limit comments by blocking specific keywords appearing in the comment section on your page. You can select up to 1,000 keywords, phrases, or emojis in any language to block from your page’s comment section. 

As an example, let’s say you want to block the word “hate.” Facebook will automatically block all the variations of the word “hate.” And by variations, we’re indicating every possible misspelling, abbreviations, symbols, plurals, and common misspelling of that word, such as HATE, h32e, H.A.T.E, #hate, etc. 

The best part is that you don’t have to add all these variations to your keyword list; Facebook will automatically recognize all the variations of the word “hate.” 

Now to disable comments that include certain keywords that you’ve blocked, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Log in to your Facebook account and select your profile photo. 

Step 2. Click on the page you wish to use. 

Step 3. Click on your page’s profile icon, located at the top right corner of your screen. 

Step 4. Click on the Settings option. 

Step 5. Now under the general section. look for the Moderation section. 

Step 6. In the Moderation section, you’ll notice an option- Hide comments containing certain words from your page. Click on the Edit button beside the option. 

Step 7. Now add any keywords, emoji, or phrases you want to block:

• You can block comments by typing keywords or phrases in the box separated by commas.
• If you have a file containing a list of keywords to block, click the three horizontal dots button, then click Upload from. CSV to upload your file. 

Step 8. Review your keyword list. 

• If you’ve added variations of a keyword, click Show Variations to review it. You can remove the variations by clicking the Remove Variations option. 
• If you wish to remove a certain keyword from the list, just click the (x) button next to it. If you’ve changed your mind and decide to remove all the keywords, click the Delete All option. 

Step 9. Click Save. 

And, that’s it! Following these steps, you’ll be able to disable comments that include blocked words successfully.

How to Hide Certain Comments on a Facebook Post

Here are the steps you can follow to hide certain comments on a Facebook post. You can use your mobile app or computer to hide comments according to your choice.  

Step 1. Open your Facebook page.

Step 2. Head to the post that has some offensive or abusive comment that you want to hide.

Step 3. Choose the comment you want to hide, then click the three horizontal dots (⋯) beside the comment. 

Step 4. Now click on Hide comment.

These simple steps will help you hide abusive or unwanted comments from your page. But, if you’ve changed your mind and decide to unhide the hidden comments:

1. Go to your page and select a post that has comments you wish to unhide. 
2. In the comment section, click Most relevant > Hidden by This Page.
3. Now choose a comment, and click the Unhide option below. 
4. Or, you can click the (⋯) button, then select Unhide comment to complete the process. 

What happens after hiding a comment from a post on your Facebook page is:

• The hidden comment will be visible to the user who wrote the comment in the first place.

How to Block Facebook Comments With Some Certain Words Using Filter

Turning on the profanity filter allows Facebook to filter and hide profanity comments from your page. According to Facebook, they filter such words by using the most commonly reported offensive phrases and words marked by the community. 

So, here’s what you can do to turn on the profanity filter on Facebook:

Step 1. Log in to your Facebook account and go to your Facebook page. 

Step 2. On your page, click on the profile photo located at the top right corner of your screen.

Step 3. Then, click on the Settings & Privacy option. 

Step 4. Now click Settings, then Privacy. 

Step 5. Now from the sidebar, click on the Public Posts option. 

Step 6. Go to the Moderation section, then Profanity Filter. 

Step 7. Enable the Profanity Filter. 

Step 8. Finally, click Save.

After enabling the profanity filter, comments with profanity words will be hidden from the world. However, the person who originally wrote the comment will still be able to see the hidden comment on their Facebook account.
