# What Is Add Yours on Instagram?

Add Yours is a sticker that turns your story or reel into a prompt. Anyone who sees it can tap it and add their own story or reel to the chain.

## The short answer

Add Yours is a sticker for Instagram stories and reels. It holds a short prompt, like "show me your pet." Anyone who sees the sticker can tap it and add their own story or reel. All the replies link together in one chain, and you can tap the prompt to browse them.

## How Add Yours works

The sticker has three parts.

- **The prompt.** A line of text that asks people to add something.
- **The Started by credit.** The name of the account that made the prompt.
- **The Add Yours button.** Viewers tap it to join the chain.

The chain is shared. Every story or reel that joins gets the same sticker. So a good prompt can spread far past your own followers. Instagram explains the basics on its [Add Yours sticker help page](https://help.instagram.com/204990845482566).

## How to start or join an Add Yours

To start one, add the sticker after you make a story or record a reel.

1. Tap **Stickers** at the top of the screen.
2. Pick the **Add Yours** sticker.
3. Type a prompt on any topic. Or tap **Random** or **See more prompts** for ideas.
4. Tap **Done** in the top right.
5. Share your story or reel as normal.

Instagram sends you a notification each time someone adds to your prompt. To turn that off, tap **Options** on your story or reel and change the notification setting.

To join one someone else started:

1. Open a story or reel that has the sticker.
2. Tap **Add Yours** on the sticker.
3. For a story, take a photo or video, or pick one from your camera roll. For a reel, record and share your reel.
4. Share it.

Your post now sits in the chain with the same sticker on top. You can also start from the story gallery. Tap **Templates** in the top left to browse trending prompts and templates, then tap **Add Yours** on any of them.

## How to see who added to an Add Yours

Tap the prompt on the sticker. Instagram shows the replies from public accounts and from accounts you follow. It does not show every reply. Replies from private accounts you do not follow stay hidden.

On a template, tap the small profile pictures on the left of the sticker. That opens the list of stories using it.

## Who can see your reply

Your reply follows the same rules as any story or reel. This table sums it up.

| Your account | Who sees what you added |
|---|---|
| Public | Anyone who opens the chain |
| Private | Only your followers |
| Story shared to Close Friends | Only that list |
| Someone you blocked | Never sees it |

The Started by credit follows similar rules. People will not see that you started a prompt when:

- You blocked them.
- Your account is private and they do not follow you.
- You shared it to Close Friends and they are not on the list.
- You deleted the original story or reel.

You can also hide your name on purpose. Tap **Options** on your story or reel and choose to hide the Started by credit. If you share stories with a small list often, our [CFS guide](/what-does-cfs-mean-on-instagram/) explains how Close Friends works.

## How to remove an Add Yours sticker

Before you share, you can still edit the story and take the sticker off.

After you share, Instagram does not list a separate "leave chain" button. Delete the story or reel and it drops out of the chain. A story also disappears on its own after 24 hours.

If you started a template and want to stop people using it, you can delete the template itself.

1. Tap the profile pictures on the left of the sticker.
2. Tap **Options** next to "Stories using this template."
3. Tap **Delete template**, then **Delete**.

That removes the template from both Instagram and Facebook.

## Add Yours templates

A template is an Add Yours prompt with extra pieces pinned to it. You can pin GIFs, text or images. When someone uses your template, those pinned items appear on their story too. It works well for "this or that" lists and fill-in-the-blank cards. Instagram lists the steps on its [Add Yours template help page](https://help.instagram.com/859320569007765).

1. Start a story and add the GIFs, text or images you want to keep.
2. Tap **Stickers** and pick **Add Yours template**.
3. Tap each item you want to pin.
4. Tap **Next**, then **Post**.

Anyone can use your template, even if your account is private. Template stories can also be shared to Facebook, and your username shows in the credit there unless you hide it.

There is also an **Add Yours music** sticker. Tap Stickers, pick Add Yours music, tap **Add** to choose a song, then tap Done. Friends can then add the song they are playing.

## Why Add Yours matters for growth

Every reply carries your prompt and your name. That puts your account in front of people who never followed you. Pair it with a clear bio and a recent post so visitors have a reason to stay.
