# Instagram Login Not Working? Here Is What to Do

Page: https://famoid.com/instagram-login-not-working/

Start by checking if Instagram itself is down. If it is up, one of the fixes below almost always gets you back in. Work through them in order.

## First: is it you, or is it Instagram?

Before you change anything, run our [live Instagram status check](/is-instagram-down/). It tests Instagram from our servers and from your connection. If Instagram is down, nothing below will help. Wait it out. Most outages end within a few hours.

If Instagram is up, keep reading.

## The fixes, in order

### 1. Check your internet

Open any website in your browser. If it does not load, the problem is your connection, not Instagram. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data and try again.

### 2. Turn off your VPN

Instagram blocks some VPN addresses. Many "try again later" errors come from this. Turn the VPN off, close the app, and log in again.

### 3. Update the app

Old versions break after Instagram changes things on its side. Open the App Store or Google Play and update Instagram. Then try again.

### 4. Close the app all the way

Swipe it away from your recent apps. Wait ten seconds. Open it again. This clears a lot of stuck states.

### 5. Clear the cache

- **Android:** Settings → Apps → Instagram → Storage → **Clear cache**. Do not tap "Clear data" unless you know your password.
- **iPhone:** There is no cache button. Delete the app and install it again. Your account and posts are safe. They live on Instagram, not on your phone.

### 6. Log in on the website

Go to [instagram.com](https://www.instagram.com/) in a private browser tab. If the website lets you in but the app does not, the app is the problem. Reinstall it.

### 7. Reset your password

On the login screen tap **Forgot password?** Instagram can send a link by email, SMS or WhatsApp. Use the one you still have access to. Pick a password you have not used before.

### 8. Wait out a temporary block

If you see **"We limit certain things"** or **"Try again later"**, Instagram has slowed your account for a short time. This happens after a burst of follows, likes or login tries. Stop and wait 24 to 48 hours. It lifts on its own.

### 9. Check if the account is disabled or hacked

- **Disabled:** Instagram shows a message saying your account was disabled. You can appeal from the login screen. The appeal asks which [Community Guideline](https://help.instagram.com/477434105621119) you are said to have broken. Our guide to a [suspended Instagram account](/instagram-account-suspended/) walks through the appeal.
- **Hacked:** You get an email about changes you did not make. Go to [instagram.com/hacked](https://www.instagram.com/hacked/) and follow the steps. Do this fast.

## Error messages and what they mean

| Message | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Something went wrong, please try again | Outage, old app, or rate limit | Check status, update, wait an hour ([full guide](/instagram-something-went-wrong/)) |
| Try again later | Short block on account or network | VPN off, change network, wait |
| We limit certain things | Too many actions too fast | Stop and wait 24–48 hours |
| Sorry, there was a problem with your request | Bad cached login or VPN | Clear cache, VPN off, log in on web |
| Incorrect password | Typo, or password was changed | Reset password; check for hacked signs |
| Your account has been disabled | Rule violation | Appeal from the login screen |

## Things that do not help

- Apps or sites that promise to "unlock" your account. They cannot. Many steal passwords.
- Making a new account to "reset" the old one. It does not free the old one.
- Logging in over and over. That can trigger a longer block.

## Keep your account safe after you get in

- Turn on two-factor login and save the backup codes somewhere safe.
- Check **Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security → Where you're logged in** and remove devices you do not know.
- Never give your password to any service. Famoid, for example, never asks for it. We only need a public username to run an order.

## Still locked out?

Instagram's own help center has the appeal forms: [help.instagram.com](https://help.instagram.com/). If you cannot get a login code or link, use Instagram's [login help form](https://help.instagram.com/contact/606967319425038). There is no phone number to call. Be patient; appeals can take days. Our guide to [contacting Instagram support](/how-to-contact-instagram-support/) lists every real channel.

## Quick answers

**Why does Instagram say 'Something went wrong, please try again'?**

It is Instagram's catch-all error. It shows during outages, when your app is out of date, when your connection is weak, or when Instagram has slowed your account down for a short time. Check the live status first, then update the app and try again in an hour.

**What does 'We limit certain things' mean on Instagram?**

Instagram thinks you did too much too fast, like following or liking many accounts in a row. It is a temporary block. Stop the activity and wait 24 to 48 hours. Do not use any app that promises to remove it.

**Why does Instagram say 'Try again later' when I log in?**

Usually a short block on your account or your network. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, turn off any VPN, and wait an hour. If it keeps happening for days, reset your password from instagram.com.

**I lost access to my two-factor codes. What now?**

Use one of the backup codes you saved when you set up two-factor. If you have none, tap 'Try another way' on the code screen and choose the options Instagram offers, such as a code by SMS or WhatsApp.

**How do I know if my account was hacked?**

Signs are an email about a changed password or email you did not request, posts you did not make, or a username you do not recognize. Go to instagram.com/hacked right away and follow the steps.
