# How to See Who Unfollowed You on Instagram

Page: https://famoid.com/how-to-see-who-unfollowed-you-on-instagram/

Instagram does not show a list of who unfollowed you. You can still find out by checking one person's Following list, comparing your lists, or tracking your count over time. Here is how, without risky apps.

## The honest answer first

Instagram has no "who unfollowed me" page. It never has. The app does not send a notification either. All you get is a follower number that goes down. Any app that promises a neat unfollowers list is guessing from your data, and it needs your login to do it.

There are still safe ways to find out. They take a little effort, but they cannot get your account banned.

## How to check if one person unfollowed you

This is the fastest method when you already suspect someone.

1. Go to your profile and tap **Followers**.
2. Type their name in the search bar at the top.
3. If they do not show up, they unfollowed you (or never followed).

You can also check from their side.

1. Open their profile.
2. Tap **Following**.
3. Search for your own name.

If your name is missing, they no longer follow you. This second method only works if their account is public, or if you follow them. It also fails if they hide their following list.

A blocked account looks different from an unfollow. If you cannot find their profile at all, read our guide on [how to know if someone blocked you](/how-to-know-if-someone-blocked-you-on-instagram/).

## How to compare your followers and following lists

This finds people you follow who do not follow you back. It works on any account size, but it is slow above a few thousand.

1. Go to your profile and tap **Following**.
2. Sort by **Date followed: Earliest** to keep the order stable.
3. For each name, search it in your **Followers** list.
4. Note anyone who is missing.

On a desktop browser it goes faster. Open both lists in two tabs and scroll side by side. Some people export both lists with Instagram's **Download your information** tool and compare them in a spreadsheet. That tool is under **Settings and activity**, then **Your information and permissions**. The files list every follower and every account you follow.

## How to track unfollows with a free follower counter

The simplest long-term method is to watch the number. Our [free Instagram follower count checker](/instagram-follower-count-checker/) shows your live count for any public username. Check it at the same time each day and write it down. A drop tells you someone left, and the date tells you which post may have caused it.

This does not name the person. It does tell you when it happened, which is often the real question. No login is needed, so there is nothing to risk.

## Why unfollower apps are risky

Apps that show unfollowers work by logging in as you and pulling your lists many times a day. That has three problems.

- They need your password. You are handing your account to a stranger.
- Instagram's rules ban third-party apps that act as you. Accounts get flagged for it.
- Many of them sell your data or push paid upgrades once they have your login.

We watch a lot of accounts at Famoid. We have seen accounts get locked out, hit with "suspicious activity" checks, or lose reach after connecting one of these apps. Instagram has also shut down the data access these apps relied on, so many of them now show wrong numbers. The [Instagram Help Center](https://help.instagram.com/) lists the rules on third-party apps. Our advice is simple. Never give your password to an app that is not Instagram.

## Is losing followers normal?

Yes. Every account loses a few followers a day. People clean up who they follow, delete their accounts, or lose interest. A loss of one to two percent a month is nothing to worry about.

A bigger sudden drop is usually a purge. Instagram removes fake, spam and inactive accounts in waves. When that happens, thousands of accounts lose followers on the same day. You will often see people talking about it online. It is not personal, and it does not hurt your reach.

Losing followers right after a post is different. That is feedback on the post. Check what you shared that day.

## What to do after losing followers

Do not chase the people who left. Focus on the next ones. Posting on a steady schedule matters more than any single unfollow. Our guide on [how to get more followers on Instagram](/how-to-get-more-followers-on-instagram/) covers the tactics that work. If you want a quick boost to the number, Famoid sells [Instagram followers](/insta/) with paced delivery. We only need your username, never your password.

## Quick answers

**Can you see who unfollowed you on Instagram?**

Not from a built-in list. Instagram never shows unfollows. You can check one person by opening your Followers list and searching their name. If they are gone, they unfollowed.

**Is there a free app to see who unfollowed you on Instagram?**

There are many, but they need your password and they break Instagram's rules. We have seen accounts locked or banned after using them. A free follower counter that only needs your username is the safe option.

**Does Instagram notify you when someone unfollows you?**

No. Instagram sends no alert when someone unfollows. The only sign is a lower number on your profile.

**Why did I lose followers on Instagram overnight?**

Sudden drops are usually Instagram removing fake or inactive accounts. Small daily drops of a few followers are normal for every account.

**How can I tell if someone unfollowed me or blocked me?**

If they unfollowed, you can still open their profile. If you search their name and nothing shows, or the profile says No posts yet, they may have blocked you.
