Is it Possible to Turn off Comments on YouTube?

Yes, it’s absolutely possible to turn off comments on YouTube videos if you don’t want users to comment on them.

You can quickly turn off the comment section on a specific video or even your entire channel by making some minor changes in the settings. And most importantly, you’ll need access to YouTube Creator Studio to disable your comment section.

We’ll discuss more on this later in this post. First, let’s break down why turning off comments on YouTube isn’t a bad idea.

Why Should You Turn Off Comments on YouTube?

Youtube comments are a great space for your subscribers to share their opinion and feedback. With comments, your followers can interact with each other, which can help increase engagement.

But comments are not always fun and games!

Sometimes you can get spammed by users who try to promote their channel, page, or services. And sometimes, you can get rude and negative comments from people, which can bring a lot of bad press.

Troll and hate comments are probably the number one reason why you should turn off comments on YouTube.

Not only do trolls and negative comments discourage creators, but they also damage your brand reputation online.

Another reason why you should turn off YouTube comments is to avoid controversies. If you made a video on a controversial topic, it might attract unnecessary arguments.

That’s why the safe option is to disable the comment section on your YouTube videos.

In fact, in 2019, YouTube announced that they’d no longer allow comment sections in the majority of the kids’ channels.

Only selected kid-friendly YouTube channels will be allowed to enable their comment sections for safety. According to YouTube, this is the appropriate way to protect the YouTube community.

When you turn off your YouTube comment section, your followers will be able to watch your video, like, share or subscribe to your channel. But they can’t leave comments on your video.

You may think about whether turning off comments affect the YouTube algorithm. Well, the simple answer is no. Disabling the comments in your video or channel won’t stop you from ranking at the top.

For example, American photographer, dancer, and social media personality, Jordan Matter has turned off comments on his self-titled YouTube channel. Still, his videos are extremely popular among users.
