Instagram is becoming one of the most widely used social media platforms in the world, especially when it comes to sharing personal photos and interests as well as connecting to people with similar interests.
That being said, there are quite a few features available on Instagram that not very many users are currently aware of. With that in mind, we’ve put together this quick article for you outlining and briefly explaining some of the lesser known but still helpful features that Instagram offers to its users.
Anyone who’s ever engaged in online social interactions knows that at some point you’re going to come across someone who is just rude and combative (and sometimes even verbally abusive). Luckily, you don’t have to put up with the offensive comments of trolls; Instagram gives you an option in your settings which will filter out any comments containing inappropriate to offensive language. Furthermore, you can also customize which words to filter out, allowing you to block comments containing phrases that are offensive to you specifically.
Control data usage.
Instagram is widely known for using up a lot of data; this can make it a particularly frustrating medium for those with limited data plans (as well as those who end up having a sky-high bill as a result of their Instagram usage). Luckily, Instagram gives you an option to “Use less data”, allowing you to keep your overall data usage better within reasonable limits. That being said, it is important to understand that selecting this option may cause slower load times.
Find previously liked posts.
If you’ve ever wanted to go back and find a post you liked, now you can! Under your “Account” section, Instagram gives you an option for reviewing all the posts you’ve ever liked; not only is this useful for finding certain posts again, it’s also simply fun to look through your old posts and see your previous interests.
Remove yourself from a photo tag.
While the option to remove your actual image from a photo is not yet an option, you can remove yourself from the tags attached to pictures if you’re rather be associated with that photo for whatever reason. The most interesting thing about this feature is that you can even remove yourself from the tags of other users’ photos; this can be helpful for when you end up tagged in friends’ photos when you’d rather be left anonymous.
Schedule posts in advance.
While Instagram is largely a mobile platform, with a greater emphasis on spontaneous posting and on-the-go sharing, being able to prepare posts in advance and schedule them to post on a specific day and at a specific time can be tremendously helpful for keeping your account active and your content engaging for your followers. This feature can be especially useful to anyone utilizing Instagram for business or marketing purposes.
